What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)

What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!

This is the second-to-last week of the season.

Are there any shows airing next season which you are looking forward to?

    My picks so far:

    Gachiakuta
Very orthodox shounen action series from Bones. Should be a good mindless watch while they're cooking up the rest of Hero Academia.

New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
Reboot of the heavily western cartoon-inspired shock comedy from Trigger. Animation looks exactly like I remembered it and Imaishi Hiroyuki is back to direct, so it should be a blast.

    CITY
Absurd comedy from the author of Nichijou with animation by Kyoto Animation. Nichijou is one of my favourite comedies of all time, and while I could not get into the manga for CITY at all, the trailer got me interested again. Hoping that this is one of those series that really shines when voiced and animated with comedic timing.

    Ruri no Houseki
Slice of life / hobby show about mineral collecting. Not really sure whether this will actually be interesting, but the animation (from Studio Bind who did Mushoku Tensei / Onii-chan wa oshimai, both of which were gorgeous) looks great.

    Nyaight of the Living Cat
Comedy about a pandemic which turns humans into cats. Looks absolutely stupid but also absolutely watchable.

    Osomatsu-san S4
Sketch comedy show adapted from the old Osomatsu-kun manga. Season 3 was awful, but seasons 1-2 were incredible so I'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt. It's a shame they couldn't get Gintama director Fujita Youichi back because he was a great fit for this style of humour.

Shows I won't be watching but enjoy the manga for:

    Dandadan S2
Pretty sure nothing more needs to be said about this.

    Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu
Great rural horror story with an unusually mature take on relationships between boys.

    Takopi no Genzai
Deals with a lot of heavy themes like abuse and bullying so this won't be for everyone, but I really dug the subversion of the "helpful critter with magical gadgets" trope and how it could play out in the real world. The manga is short, so not sure how this'll go as a 1-cour TV show.

Wrapped up the (currently available) manga for Dandadan, and glad to say it's very good! With one exception/warning about the very first chapter (which I talked about last week) the rest of the series has been very cool and fun and honestly cute! I do appreciate how it leans into slight horror themes on occasion too.

Started SpyxFamily, only part-way through volume 1 so far but I've very much enjoyed the hijinks so far

Spy x Family is my favorite manga and anime. Love the setting and how over-the-top their hi-jinks can be (yet somehow still relatable). You're in for a treat! I've been meaning to watch/read...

I've been meaning to watch/read Dandadan after discovering the amazing Creepy Nuts opening song.
