If by "previous original announcements" you mean High Guardian Spice, it didn't go down well for several reasons:

      1. At first glance, it looks like a mediocre CalArts style rip-off of Little Witch Academia.
      2. The entire trailer explained nothing about the premise of the show, but was just several minutes of the team bragging about how diverse they are, which is disputable based on the composition of their actual writing team.
      3. It was announced as an original on an anime streaming site. Anime fans felt their money was being wasted on a Western production.
      4. Crunchyroll has some glaring technical issues with its website. Many felt their money was being wasted because of this.
