I've been watching Japan Sinks 2020. I didn't realize at first that it was a Science Saru production - manditory watching on my part - and so I'm just catching up.

I really like the way it unfolds. In particular, there is a short segment where the group stops wandering because they found a safe space with a cult. Their adventures there are kind of a microcosm of what's going around them, and there are some interesting storytelling choices being made there that really make the show stand out. The cult leader apparently has real powers, but they take efforts to humanize her (interestingly enough, by inserting a sex scene - hey, it works). I especially love the ending of this segment where everything is falling around the cult members and they gather around and say that this is where they belong. There is also a segment where a child dies and watching the mother's grossly contorted face - far more than a human face actually can be moved - really makes you feel that moment of agony.

I have not finished the last episode just yet, but one other thing I am really enjoying about this series is that it's not just another apocalypse gorefest. Rather, it's a coming of age story that uses the scenario as a background.

Welp once again I'm kinda late, but oh well. Decided to drop Shiki early, mainly due to lack of interest. I kept finding it being the last show I watched and wasn't excited to watch the episode. And if I don't have any sort of draw to jump in and watch it, it obviously isn't working for me. Teen Romantic Comedy is that way also, but I keep watching that simply because I've been waiting for many years to finish the show. Even if it is no longer as good as I remember it through rose-tinted glasses. Did decide to start watching Millionaire Detective, need to watch more to make a decision.

    2020 Summer Week 6

Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Ep 6
Yep, this is simply and what I want. Nothing overly complicated or confusing, just a simple happy enjoyable story. I nice fun romantic couple, and a very possible secondary couple. And fun hijinks all around.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax! Ep 6
I do feel bad for Yui, but in a way I feel like this whole situation is created by themselves. For many months everyone has just stuck to their routines, and nobody ever made a final decision. Every step of the way they just put off the final decision and kinda hoped it would never come up. But of course, now that things are being forced to wrap up due to school ending, they are kinda screwed. They had months to work through relationships, figure out where the other person stood and make decisions on their own time instead of being rushed to make it.

Side not, I always find it odd in Anime when a major event is something super common over in America. Putting on a prom is just kinda the yearly thing that happens, and nobody gives it second thought. If somebody in a show gets a motorcycle or car it is a massive occurrence, but in America you are the oddity if you don’t. Nothing really interesting, just something minor I always notice about the difference of ideas.

The Millionaire Detective - Balance: UNLIMITED Ep 1
Hmmm, first episode was pretty fun and enjoyable. I like the characters and the setting is rather interesting. But I want to know more about what is going on, mostly related to Daisuke. I don’t understand who he is at all, and why somebody who is rich is working as a detective. Also I want to know if that Balance Unlimited is actually true, it must hit a limit at some point.

    2010 Summer Week 6

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Ep 5
They are dragging out the various reveals much long than I expected. I figured human group would know about Rikuo and the Yokai by now, or at least have a faint idea of who they are. But they are just continuing with this idea of the normal kid for a while now, and I honestly don’t know when the reveal will come.

I am pleasantly surprised that my random prediction was wrong. It was based on just some of the common tropes I’ve seen over time. So, it is nice that they didn’t follow them super closely. I figure many of these things will still happen, but it seems they will happen over a longer time frame.

    Amagami SS Ep 5
This arc seems to have a pretty standard romance, and one I really love. It isn’t unique in any one way, but it just does a solid romance. And I’m looking forward to the development continuing over the next couple episodes.

Really the only thing I hope is changed from the first arc is a bit more time. The first arc felt a bit rushed, especially that ending. So, I’m hoping this one gets more time near the end to wrap up that couple in a satisfying way.

    Cat Planet Cuties Ep 5
If this show has one major issue for me, it is the speed that it moves at. Every episode introduces more factions and more cast members and more tech. More and more and more. And yet they have never once told me what is going on with any of these. Who are the dog people? Where did they come from? At least we know that the combat suit came from the dog people but doesn’t explain any more.

I don’t know if it was this way in the original Light Novel. But I feel like I am missing so much context for the show. It is a fun and enjoyable crazy experience, but I don’t feel like it is something I can fall in love with because so much context is lost in this frantic pace.

Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail Ep 2
Looks like the meat of this OVA is now starting up fully. We have the various factions and their various plans and worries. And of course, everyone is out for them-selves in some function, but also just want to survive. I’m looking forward to seeing how things progress from here, and I think by the end I’ll be sad this was just a 5-episode OVA.
