What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)

What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!

Attack on Titan final season. So far so decent. I'm not a huge anime watcher, but this AoT has been a slow burn, and completist in me won't have rest without final season..

I remember watching the first season back when it came out and I was blown away.

I loved it so much I started reading the manga. I stopped reading it because I loved the animation.

It’s almost as long as the steins gate anime.

I’m also looking for closure and hope it ends well. I’m enjoying it so far but hate the two weeks between episodes

For god's sake, tell me everything!

When I first saw Sarazanmai it instantly became one of my favorite shows, even before it ended. And unfortunately I haven't been able to find anyone who has been able to find any interest in it.

I'm going to give you some 'hints' to how to enjoy this series, because Ikuhara anime tends to be a bit hard to follow.

      1. The show is stuffed to the brim with opinions about a number of things, but remember at it's core it's actually a slice-of-life/coming-of-age story. You can get away with missing a lot of details, but the most important ones by far are the feelings of and relationships between the three main characters.

      2. The currently obvious bad guys are something of a 'second level' to the main story. I don't think it will ruin anything to tell you now that the actual antagonist is actually a metaphorical construct.

      3. Even with all the loudness and butt jokes, the show is actually incredibly sentimental and has a lot of focus on tragedy. Don't watch it when you're distracted or you will not get the full effect. And you want to get the full effect with this show or else you won't understand the full effect of how beautiful the ending is.

I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. I hope it's not too much of a spoiler, but it's really good to understand the complexities of Kazuki's relationship with his brother because it has parallels to the other relationships that are important in this series, and the nature of those relationships is basically the core theme to the show.

Admittedly language was a bit of a challenge for me as well, on the first watch. Sometimes what they are saying is just very dense with ideas, so it seems like the task of translating must have been very difficult. It doesn't help that the show is full of puns. On the other side, this is probably actually one of Ikuhara's easier anime to parse meaning from if you are able to understand what they are saying.

Promised neverland is really good and I enjoy the premise of the anime. It’s a short show but definitely recommend checking it out.
