Attack on Titan final season. So far so decent. I'm not a huge anime watcher, but this AoT has been a slow burn, and completist in me won't have rest without final season..

I remember watching the first season back when it came out and I was blown away.

I loved it so much I started reading the manga. I stopped reading it because I loved the animation.

It’s almost as long as the steins gate anime.

I’m also looking for closure and hope it ends well. I’m enjoying it so far but hate the two weeks between episodes

Still slowly making my way through Demon Slayer. Overall I like it, but I'm really not liking this "Zenitsu" character...he's not bad enough to ruin the show for me, but he certainly is not doing...

I've just recently watched the first two episodes of Sarazanmai, which I thought were incredible. I've only seen a few episodes of Utena and none of Ikuhara's other works, but can still definitely see his hand in things. What sold me on it was hearing about the interpersonal conflicts that surround the "leaks," and I'm watching the show more for the drama of that than the surrealism or critiques of materialism. Given the sensitive nature of the first leak, I thought it was handled pretty well, although the second one was kind of lack-luster. It's such a great narrative conceit that I hope they make the most of it.

For god's sake, tell me everything!

When I first saw Sarazanmai it instantly became one of my favorite shows, even before it ended. And unfortunately I haven't been able to find anyone who has been able to find any interest in it.

I'm going to give you some 'hints' to how to enjoy this series, because Ikuhara anime tends to be a bit hard to follow.

      1. The show is stuffed to the brim with opinions about a number of things, but remember at it's core it's actually a slice-of-life/coming-of-age story. You can get away with missing a lot of details, but the most important ones by far are the feelings of and relationships between the three main characters.

      2. The currently obvious bad guys are something of a 'second level' to the main story. I don't think it will ruin anything to tell you now that the actual antagonist is actually a metaphorical construct.

      3. Even with all the loudness and butt jokes, the show is actually incredibly sentimental and has a lot of focus on tragedy. Don't watch it when you're distracted or you will not get the full effect. And you want to get the full effect with this show or else you won't understand the full effect of how beautiful the ending is.

That's great news, and was just what I was hoping for. I've still only seen the first two episodes, but so far the interactions between the main characters have been very poignant. Kazuki's brother is the side character I've seen the most of so far, aside from fleeting glimpses of Toi's brother and Enta's sister. There's not a lot of context for Enta's sister yet, but I have a feeling that all those sibling relationships are going to be handled well. I'm glad to hear character drama is such a core part of the show.

And you want to get the full effect with this show or else you won't understand the full effect of how beautiful the ending is.

This is also good news, as sentimentality is something I value. I don't watch too much anime, but I thought Stars Align and Anohana were both great, and both were sentimental shows that some saw as veering too far into melodrama. But I really appreciated that about them.

I realized in the first episode that understanding the full range of everything going on was going to be a little challenging, as I didn't know about the songs, and am watching the raw version for language practice. The two kappa songs were easy to understand, but there were some things that flew over my head in the policemen's song. I've found the lyrics online, though, so will follow along and make sure I understand it all before proceeding to the third episode.

I'll say that the first "Sarazanmai" sequence was one of the most powerful scenes I've seen in a TV show in a while. There was so much pathos and vulnerability there that I teared up, which made the sequence in the second episode kind of a let down. But if the post-credits scene in the second episode prefigures the Sarazanmai revelation of the third, I'm expecting good things.

I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. I hope it's not too much of a spoiler, but it's really good to understand the complexities of Kazuki's relationship with his brother because it has parallels to the other relationships that are important in this series, and the nature of those relationships is basically the core theme to the show.

Admittedly language was a bit of a challenge for me as well, on the first watch. Sometimes what they are saying is just very dense with ideas, so it seems like the task of translating must have been very difficult. It doesn't help that the show is full of puns. On the other side, this is probably actually one of Ikuhara's easier anime to parse meaning from if you are able to understand what they are saying.
