What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)

What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!

Here are a few off the top of my head that I enjoyed:

    • Naruto (I know, this is super-mainstream, but who cares? It was great.)
    • Samurai Champloo
    • Future Boy Conan
    • Meiken Jolie (AKA Belle and Sebastien)
    • Claymore

Going off the adventure theme (and nix-ing high school rom-com), I'm recommending a couple that might fit the bill. I'm not sure if you find violence/gore off-putting or not, so I'll include a disclaimer if the series includes something in it. Also, I have no idea if these are Anime & Manga or solely Manga. Some probably do have an anime adaptation, but I don't watch much these days.

The small list of Anime that I have seen that might fit the bill:

I watched the 2019 adaptation of Blade of the Immortal last month, over the course of about three weeks. I almost never rewatch shows, and on the rare occasions I do, it might be 10+ years after the first viewing... but I started rewatching this on Monday. Understandably, the graphic violence may not be in everybody's wheelhouse, and I myself was very skeptical after seeing certain elements in even the first episode, but the entire series is very, very, very well made, and I want to appreciate every detail. I'm hesitant to use the label masterpiece before finishing my rewatch, but I can't recommend it enough.

Thanks. I will check it out. I watched the trailer just now. It looks intriguing. I like the art.

And thanks for putting together the list. I'll finally take the plunge of Immortal now.

Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to make that list. I will check them out. I'm fine with violence so long as it is fitting to the story world.

I was watching 86 and though only 2 episodes are out I have very high expectations for it. The story seems a bit confusing with only the first 2 episodes given but I feel like this will be a series I have to watch many times to understand. It has good CGI and a wonderful soundtrack. It might be a bit too early to judge it but I am still going to to recommend everyone to watch this anime.

Still watching Naruto and Blood Blockade Battlefront. Naruto is great as usual, though BBB is a bit... eh. Like, it started off great and seemed like just the right thing for me, but I'm 3-4 eps in now and I just can't really seem to care for the characters, and everything is a bit hard to follow. No real good fights either so far.

I'm also reading One Piece vol 2 now, wish I got into it sooner.
