I was working on setting up an open source project a while back and wanted to use a mailing list, but I couldn't find a single good hosting service for it. Most commercially-hosted email servers are based around newsletters, marketing emails, or mailing lists within a closed organization. I think a service based around more open discussion groups could find a niche, even beyond supporting open source software development.
