I think this is niche software. Cmus is unmaintained too and it's in C (which i prefer over using mpd + ncmcpcpcpcpcpcpppp). There were other terminal apps that i used that are unmaintained now.
CLI software for desktops are not so popular out of r/unixporn. I say this not as an insult, because i use them. I'm just saying that it gives the impression that we have a lot of users and programmers because we hang around at the same places.
It's like that with Linux desktop users. I know there are a lot here, on reddit, and in some places, but i never met one in person.
