I've kind of had this nagging thought in the back of my head for a while now, but I'm going to ask it here, as a comment, before I go and make a whole topic about it: ncmpcpp is a C++ project....

I've kind of had this nagging thought in the back of my head for a while now, but I'm going to ask it here, as a comment, before I go and make a whole topic about it:

ncmpcpp is a C++ project. Would it be naive of me to think that the program being written in C++ has negatively impacted its longevity, popularity (in terms of contributions received), and ability to be maintained indefinitely?

The reason I'm asking is, one of the biggest complaints I've heard about Taskwarrior, whose development has also slowed down considerably, is that people just can't be bothered to contribute to or help maintain a C++ project.

I have zero experience with C++. I know practically nothing about it. This comment was just brought on by a nagging feeling is all.

Qt has a lot of money behind it, and KDE is c++ because that's the only real way to access qt.

Understood, but he is asking about the lack of longevity/popularity because it is C++. There are a lot of programmers doing Qt software for free, so i don't think this is the case. I think this is...

I think this is niche software. Cmus is unmaintained too and it's in C (which i prefer over using mpd + ncmcpcpcpcpcpcpppp). There were other terminal apps that i used that are unmaintained now.

CLI software for desktops are not so popular out of r/unixporn. I say this not as an insult, because i use them. I'm just saying that it gives the impression that we have a lot of users and programmers because we hang around at the same places.

It's like that with Linux desktop users. I know there are a lot here, on reddit, and in some places, but i never met one in person.
