This is a bit sad to see, I've always thought antirez did a great job with Redis and appreciated his vision and all the interesting things he's done with it. Even some of the features that feel "scope creep"-ish like Redis Streams have ended up being really useful for me and I was able to use them to simplify Tildes's architecture overall.

One thing I was a little curious about in this post is him saying, "I don’t like much what the underground programming world became in recent years". He explains a bit more about that in this comment on HN:

Yep it's the open source, and in general the "spontaneous" development world, that happens without big money, just for hacking. This "place" once was kinda free and not observed much. Now you can't say anything, if you don't respect a good practice (LOL) people yell at you on Twitter. Even saying that commenting is a good idea is a problem. Not cool.

He's made quite a few more comments in the thread there, worth reading if you're interested.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what he works on next, now that it doesn't have to be something that fits into Redis at all.

Redis is the best database product I've ever used, and when it came out, there was nothing like it. It seems fairly stable now, so maybe the value of future development is fairly low! I'm...

I'm optimistic about seeing what antirez works on next! What a sharp, original guy.
