This is an interesting textbook. It is a bit dated. (Some of the screenshots are from 2000-era MacOS 9!) But the info is still good. It has a good bit of information on how audio synthesis and filtering works, as well as a very detailed history of where the techniques come from. It seems like a good starting point for musicians with some programming knowledge or programmers with some music knowledge. For example, It discusses what an FFT is and how to use one, but does not go into the math of how to calculate one. (Which is fine because there are usually OS or library routines to do it for you anyway.)

It discusses subtractive synthesis, additive synthesis, bandpass filtering, amplitude and frequency modulation, etc.
