One of the few things I still use reddit for is the game dev classifieds board (https://www.reddit.com/r/gameDevClassifieds/), where a ton of artists and musicians post their portfolios looking for work. I suspect you're already aware of this resource, and are hoping to prioritize an artist who browses tildes, but I'm posting it just in case you're not aware, or for someone else who might stumble across it.
Another major resource is, of course, artstation (https://www.artstation.com/search/artists), but I find that artstation is a lot like LinkedIn - where the artists forget to update their profile when they've secured work, or are otherwise unavailable, and I end up sending out "are you available soon?" requests and gotten ghosted or too busy replies. I find the artists who post on game dev classifieds are rarely uninterested in a contract.
I'm not an artist myself, but I'll shout out @cc-louis. I commissioned some artwork from him a few months ago. He was excellent to work with. He went through several cycles of drafts and feedback...

He is remarkably talented, and I enthusiastically recommend him to you and anyone else considering commissioned pieces.
Thanks for the shout-out @kfwyre! I'm definitely more in the camp of 'comfy' illustration, typically commissioned for children's stories and gifts. I am happy to work in different styles, and...

I am happy to work in different styles, and often do a lot of back-and-forth with clients, but in this case I suspect an artist more familiar with horror and realism would be a better fit.
