With a heat wave coming this week, this video reminds me of the good times when everything was green

That was actually surprisingly pleasant to watch... almost meditative. Your excellent music choices combined with the sedate tempo and meter of your voice almost made the video feel like spoken word. My only criticism there would be the hard cut between tracks which broke the spell a little bit.

The whole thing was also beautifully shot (other than the vertical video part) and you actually managed to make the “mundane” subjects you were filming visually interesting. I especially liked the draining of the pool of water on the tarp which was incredibly satisfying to watch for some odd reason.

Overall, excellent job and you have yourself a new subscriber.

Thank you so much! I did want some kind of split there to delineate between the days, but I also worried that it was a bit jarring. I struggle with finding good ways to switch between tracks. One transition in my most recent episode is absolutely awful and I can't stand it. It's definitely something I have to work on, so thanks again for bringing it to my attention.

That one clip of draining the pooled up water is my favorite out of that whole episode. I'm stoked someone else likes it too!

"Dry, dead, desolate wasteland" pretty much describes how I feel about the weather now. I can't stand the heat (I definitely picked the wrong line of work), and I can't wait for the rainy season to return. And it's probably gonna be a pretty long wait.

Even though I made this a while ago, I'm always looking to improve. Any feedback is appreciated.

That's lovely. As the smoke from the wildfires washes over the area, it's nice to remember the rain.

Thanks! This was a couple of months after the Thomas fire and all the others that happened around the same time. Even though I wasn't personally anywhere near them, they hit the area pretty hard. I know a few people who were evacuated, but luckily their homes were okay. Unfortunately, it burned through one of my favorite wilderness areas. It was one of the few remaining patches of old growth chapparal around here that hadn't burned in over a century.

I didn't want to include it in the video, but that sequence about the previous year's storms has a bit more of a backstory to it. Ended up having to take my step dad to the hospital because he slipped and split his head while we were trying to save the house. We had headlamps but I could barely see anything. The amount of downpour combined with 60 mph gusts in almost total darkness made the whole situation futile, and the back half of the house basically flooded.

I didn't want to include the bit about the hospital in the video because I doubt he wanted that posted on YouTube, but I tried to give that sequence a sense that it was a pretty monumentally messed up situation. I'm really not sure how it comes across though. Does that bit work well? Did including that sequence add to the story, despite missing those details?

I think it added a sense of the chaotic side of the rain, but I didn't feel a strong sense of disaster to it. Possibly because the music stayed calm throughout the clip from the past.

This makes me salty for living in the UAE and always being in a heat wave.

Holy smokes. I would die there. I have so much difficulty dealing with the heat, and I tend to get heat exhaustion and even heat stroke from working out in the sun when it's more than 32C. Wasn't there a really horrible heat wave out there last year that broke 54C?
