Slowly developing characters and drawing out their personal plots for Frontiers. It's the first time I'm drawing out something I know is going to end. None of my previous projects had a finish line: their plots started and had some momentum going forward, but I never knew how, or even how soon, they're supposed to finish. This one has a defined length and an overall arch it follows.

With Frontiers, I got an exciting look at how characters can develop. They all started two-dimensional – "he's an urban monk with temper issues", "she's an engineer with blond hair" – and gained volume over time, as my mind kept sending me images of what would be cool to tell about them. The characters I worked with before grew as well, but none piqued my interest and endeared me so. They were interesting; these are fun.

In taking a break from coding Intergrid, I'm making a text-only dating sim for web.

I'm giving myself a bit of a break and clearing myself from any creative endeavors until Timosomo rolls around. So, like 8 hours to myself, and I'm passing out candy.

A while back I built a web-app text-editor for myself that only lets you backspace for half a minute or so. It's called Backstop. After that 'the ink dries' and the text is set. It helps me write drafts without getting lost in stupid edits. It's based on (copied from) someone else's app 'Rough Draft' that no longer exists. I didn't like some aspects of it so built my own.

I've been playing around with making it into a native application with electron.js this week, but ended up mostly adding some functionality and polishing things. I'd like to get it to a lever where I'm comfortable telling more people about it (edit: as far as I'm aware, no other editor exists with this sort of behaviour, so it should be useful for others). Not quite there yet.
