I have a read a few other blog posts by American companies describing how hard it was to work with Chinese manufacturers (mainly, that the Chinese companies will shamelessly rip off the product). I thought it was interesting to hear a more positive story here (though the Chinese partner was only making the case for the product here, not the PCB).

The IP issues are real, and I think manufacturing really cutting edge stuff is quite tough for that reason (of course the margins are great because you're not selling a commodity). I think they're also sensible to contract out the manufacturing to a Chinese firm; from second hand observation of some acquitances' attempt to set up a full factory in China

      • it's really tough to get good engineers (it took them 5 years to get a very simple line running and involved moving engineers from another western country to China to get things up and running)
      • corruption is rampant (although they are quite used to operating in countries with high levels of corruption) and you have to keep a really good eye on things
      • avoid ending up in court against Chinese people

Reading this article feels like SEO click attracting garbage. Does anyone know of something better written in the subject?
