I don’t have time to watch this now, but I don’t think there’s many serious people claiming they can. Nothing has ever replaced boots on the ground for any long term goal, and it’s certainly not...

Nothing has ever replaced boots on the ground for any long term goal, and it’s certainly not going to replace artillery or long range missiles.

It’s taken a portion of the role of the combat helicopter, but the combat helicopter has moved to handle other rolls as well.

The thing that drones do is not replace anything, but bring a whole other dimension/vector to consider. A very wide range of capabilities and costs with a reason to have them almost anywhere. They’re somewhat the ultimate support tool but they likely won’t replace anything.

For reference Ukraine has brought consumer style drones to everyone’s mind, but predator drones have been around since at least the 2000s. The remote control Cessnas with explosive on them are just a cheaper, and much less reusable, form of that concept

There should probably be a qualifier in that headline: Drones alone can’t replace traditional firepower
