My house burnt down when I was 16, nearly 15 years ago. It sometimes feels like yesterday. My parents were away and I had friends over. It happened in the middle of the night, with no warning. Waking up to your parents house on fire is the most terrifying thing one can experience. Fight or flight kicks in and you do what you need to do to save yourself and anyone else there. Thankfully we all survived. I try not to play the "what ifs" in my head too much, else I get spooked. And gratefully, the neighbors across the street let us in and clothed us and made sure we were okay until the fire department showed up.
These people didn't have that option. Every time I read about these fires I think about the terror these people must've felt. And for the government/municipality/power company to fail step after step during this emergency is astounding. I know it's chaos in the moment, but there needs to be some rationality there somewhere. I was a 16 year old kid running back into a burning building to save my friends and brother, these suits couldn't have sounded one alarm or turned off the power? It hurts to read at this point.

Do you know what caused it?
Idk about this case obviously, but it's often electrical. Especially in older houses or houses that use old appliances.
I am so sorry that happened to you. Fires are terrible and terrifying.
