Mirror, for those hit by the paywall:
https://archive.is/38PdL
Thank you! Sharing paywalled articles should be considered advertising, since the only "legit" way to interact with it is by paying money.
You're welcome. But TBH, I'd really rather not reopen the debate about paywalled articles again for the nth time. Deimos (the site admin) has already decided they are perfectly acceptable to post here, and I personally agree with that stance. Especially since anyone that disagrees and doesn't want to see any paywalled articles on the site can simply add
paywall
to their topic tag filters.Does the pay wall tag get removed if someone posts an un-paywalled link in the comments?
I wouldn't necessarily want to block all paywall tagged articles if there is an alternative link in the comments.
No, if an article is paywalled then the paywall tag is applied, and it stays there even if someone provides a mirror in the comments. I honestly can't remember the last time someone didn't eventually provide a mirror in the comments to a paywalled article submitted here though. But despite that, for whatever reason (out of principle?), some people still seem to want to filter out paywalled articles, so I don't think it would be fair to them to remove the tag even if a mirror has been provided.
p.s. If someone hasn't provided a mirror link yet, anyone can create one themselves by just visiting archive.is and copying the article URL into it. Most times it will immediately take you to an already created mirror for the article, but if one doesn't exist yet it will make a new one, which usually take a few minutes. But if someone doesn't even want to have to deal with archive.is or any other mirrors, then they can always install Bypass Paywalls Clean or a similar browser extension (of which there are many) instead, which should automatically get around the majority of soft paywalls out there.
Ah ok, thanks. I only use my phone for Tildes, so adding non standard extensions is a mild hassle.
I didn't even know it had come up before. I also didn't realize I could filter those out!
Thanks yet again!
No worries. And YVW. Sorry if I came off a bit snippy, BTW... but the debate over paywalled articles has indeed raged on here several times before, and it's gotten under my skin a bit at this point. :P
