Cool stuff! A friend recently told me about Energy Vault, which is also concerned with non-“traditional” (chemical, e.g. lithium-ion) energy storage. I think technologies like these are especially promising for providing both cross-seasonal storage (lower-medium wattages over longer duration) or bridging high-demand gaps/spikes (on the scale of a large city/small country, for a short amount of time), at least once we’re able to scale them to be built really often.
Other similar companies worth keeping an eye on here are Rondo Energy, Fourth Power, Antora. I think there's a second graphite-pipes company too, who uses nitrogen instead of argon and was targeting 2400°C.
