My personal experience of South Florida is one of emergent environmental disaster.

While I hadn't encountered any pythons, invasive iguanas, Muscovy ducks, feral pigs, vervet monkeys, macaques, air potato vines, cane toads, lionfish, giant African snails, feral cats, tegu lizards, and other uncontrolled invasive species made appearances. Even the famous feral chickens of Key West are non-native.

As of December, 2018, there were 131 recognized endangered or threatened native animal species. Enforcement of protection for these species, and continued conservation funding, are at risk. Climate change is imperiling existing environmental restoration projects, but the good news is that even the most obstructionist, pro-development Republicans are waking up to the dangers of doing nothing.
