"My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, his son will drive a Land Rover, but his son will ride a camel" -Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum

Hah! One of my favourite quotes. We've come into the industrialised era very quickly, it's not hard to see without good stewardship of the environment and the planet how we could just as easily slip out of it too. For all the criticism he gets, Musk is kind of right when he says "there may be a very short window where these things [spaceships, Teslas] are possible".

Stephen Hawking had said similar as well. IIRC he figured if we don't manage to GTFO off this planet by 2600, and/or drastically change our ways, we may ultimately be doomed as a species.
