    I'll admit I have zero background knowledge here but my gut reaction is this: Why is this being left up to the people? There's a reason we elect representatives instead of using direct democracy...

    I'll admit I have zero background knowledge here but my gut reaction is this:

    Why is this being left up to the people? There's a reason we elect representatives instead of using direct democracy for every issue, especially for something like this that will barely impact anyone in the general population.

    Let the experts appointed by our representatives decide what they think is best, voters are not qualified to make these complicated ecosystem decisions or understand their potential ramifications.
