The Central Valley of California has lost 95% of it's historic wetlands, mostly to agriculture. There are a couple cool projects going on to address this where farmers are paid to allow flooding of their land out of season. The best thing is that there seems to be enough benefits from the flooding, that some farmers continue to allow flooding once the the funding ends.
