I worked at Trader Joe's ages ago, and while they were a decent place to work, there were issues that might have been addressed by a union. When I said as much (unfortunately within earshot of a manager,) I was told that I might want to keep that kind of talk to myself, as a couple of guys at a different store had been fired for it. Of course this manager was on my side, and knew I didn't mean anything by it, but I might want to be careful. I was young, friendly, and ignorant, so I shut up and didn't even realize they might have done something wrong.
I'm glad that someone else was smart enough to see through their suppression of union sentiment.
