It's easy to become pessimistic, humans are really good at that, but the average standard of living around the world has increased a lot and most people are doing alright.
I also think it's interesting that some experts say that decreasing inequality is a bellwether for the end of American hegemony. If we're really moving towards a multipolar world, the "end of history" theory from the collapse of the USSR may have been a bit premature.
