But I'd hate to leave it there. That's not a very Tildsean comment... Frankly commercialised endeavours like this are a gross mutation of the original goals of cryptocurrencies, which aim for distributed control, & peer to peer lending. Hell, I think Bitcoin is an unmitigated environmental disaster that needs to be ended as soon as possible, but this is somehow even worse.
It's gross hypercapitalism hijacking a (theoretically) interesting idea for the purposes of corporate regulation & control, so KodakOne can skim a portion of funds off the top. Who would want this?
Ryde and WENN formed a joint venture, WENN Digital, trading as KodakOne. They would build a stock photo licensing platform! And the professional photographers they hoped to attract would be paid in … KodakCoins! Rather than actual money.
Put in terms like the above, and it is obvious this was never going to work.
Blockchain smart contract photo licensing sounds like a cool idea that may be doable in the future, but a cryptocurrency built specifically for that sounds like a terrible idea. Wait for Ethereum...

Kodak snubbed digital photography when it arrived... arguably that's the single biggest reason for their downfall. I can't help but wonder if their eagerness to ride the cryto bandwagon is an attempt to not make the same mistake twice. In the end, the strategy they settled on for that was so chowderheaded, it only further proved how out of touch the company truly is.
