I'm thinking that this could lead to an increase in the need for Congress members to get jobs after Congress, which would probably be in an industry they were just regulating. If they were savvy, members might be easy on an industry they were interested in working in later, mightn't they?

I think that's a very reasonable callout. While it can (EDIT: fixed incorrect diction) seem politically expedient to trash pensions for elected officials, I think it's a small price to pay for the chance that the security offered a person or family after a few terms in Congress may be enough to empower them to stand for the issues they believe in without trying to plan hardcore for their family's future!

What I think we should be talking about is more pensions for everyone! Or better protecting SSI.

Corporations are FAR worse than some rich dude with an idea that he thinks will "improve the world"--even if the rich guy is 100% out of touch and ridiculous, there is room for a positive intention. The sole purpose of a corporate entity is to ensure the selfsame corporate entity's survival and maximize its profit. Very similar in analogy to a tumor, humorously you can sometimes use the same sort of mathematical models to model both tumors and companies with only small tweaks.
