Something I haven't seen directly addressed, what about people who were listed as dependents for 2019? My situation has changed quite a bit, I've been fully supporting myself since August 2019,...

Yeah, good question. I think it might be possible to file an amended return to be consistent, but giving individual tax advice to strangers on the Internet is probably something to avoid. I think...

I think tax accountants are going to be busy on this one. Pushing the IRS filing deadline back doesn't matter if you need to file earlier to get the check.

(They could have made it unconditional to avoid this, but no.)

    From the article:

If you’ve filed a tax return this year, the IRS will use the information you provided there about your 2019 income, marital status and dependents. (The usual deadline for filing tax returns, April 15, has been pushed back to July 15 this year in another response to the pandemic.) For those who haven’t submitted tax documents this year, the IRS will use data from last year’s filings. Americans who don’t earn enough to be required to file a tax return can submit one to the IRS now to make sure the agency has accurate information on them.

Now I'm wondering what the deadline is. It seems like a whole lot of people may need to file a tax return pretty quick, and a charity that helps them do so could use donations very efficiently. If it costs $12 to help someone file a return and they get $1200, it seems like it would be like the government matching your donation 100x?

Edit: looks like it might be April 6 but the IRS is skeptical.
