    From the article:

Fresh EBT and GiveDirectly have teamed up to give $1000 cash transfers, no strings attached, to families in financial need to help make ends meet during the coronavirus crisis. The only way to register is to fill out an enrollment form if it appears inside Fresh EBT. Funds are limited, so not everyone will be able to receive a transfer. There is no way to apply to this program outside of the app.

GiveDirectly is a charity known for providing cash benefits in several African countries and for doing studies of the benefits of cash transfers and UBI. They've recently started doing work in the U.S. as well.

EBT stands for "electronic benefits transfer." An EBT Card can be used in some U.S. states to use "food stamps" to pay for food in grocery stores. Fresh EBT seems to be an iPhone app that beneficiaries can use to check their balances and track purchases.

So, this is a cross-promotion between a charity and app provider. If you're not into that, GiveDirectly has other ways to donate money either in the U.S. or internationally.
