The idea that women cannot repeat an outfit, the distaste for multi-purpose outfits, as well as the demands for highly elaborate women’s wear, are some things I find hard to accept. Fashion is like a tax every woman has to pay in order to sustain their self esteem or be considered appropriate by society. Men are under no such predicament and can, therefore, spend a lot less on clothes if they want. So, in my view, we must reconsider this aspect of consumerism in addition to guaranteeing good pay and conditions for workers. Most women in developed countries could probably live with a third of their wardrobe without major sacrifices.

In any case, women are frequently required to own many combinations that are specifically suited for different occasions, and they do tend to vary more even in an office environment (but there’s a lot more to life than office environments). The expectations they have to meet naturally conduce to a larger wardrobe.

Regarding men, while most are aware of fashion and dress pretty well, they usually don’t need as many pieces of clothing.
