I’m interested to see where these end up landing, I do think mythics have made for interesting things where it sometimes seems like the item matters more than the character abilities, or removes a character’s weaknesses too much.

But at the same time, the pre-mythic system where typically items didn’t seem to really matter at all other than just giving stats was somewhat boring/made for more static games. (But also I’m a bronze/silver player who doesn’t watch pro-play so take all of that with a grain of salt - though I have been playing off and on since like 2015).

I think I'm looking forward to it, but I have no way to judge the rose tint of my glasses. The odd thing is that, as you mentioned, old items were often stat sticks, while other items were viewed as OP due to their outsize gameplay effects when they went beyond that. The mythics tried to lean into the excitement factor for every class and champion, but I don't think it landed well. So we end up in this weird state where we are removing excitement from items in the hopes that it restores the excitement from champions kits.

    My takeaways:

    • Many of the changes are for pro play excitement and viability
    • Crown change is interesting. The drop in damage reduction is going to make assassin burst hit harder and an extra second might not be enough to deter a bruiser. But with extra AP in combat, it might make up for it and we could see more champs picking it up.
    • Kennen is going to be in a good place, as both splitpush wave clearing and team fight are buffed.
    • I'm holding out hope that this Trynd nerf is sufficient. It seems small but base AD tuning can have a surprisingly large impact (cf. Graves, Caitlyn)
    • Otherwise a mid sized patch, nothing too crazy
