Jesus Christ they brought back Toad status.

All fears squashed, all aboard the hype train boys and girls!

Edit: Oh my god the toad has a tiny buster sword on its back. I've never been so excited for such an inconsequential thing.

Really looking forward to this game, only hope that the different parts don't take too long to come out. Never did get around to finishing the original game. But with the way this remake is looking, finishing this shouldn't be too hard for me to do.

Some Japanese gameplay from the Aps boss battle.

It turns out summons will function similiar to the more modern Final Fantasy's where they stay on the battle field as an extra combatant until a timer runs out. This as opposed to then being fancy looking magic spells in the original. Pretty neat.

Also notice Cloud is wielding Hardedge as opposed to the Buster Sword so weapon pickups are indeed going to occur.

There might be some minor environmental effects on battles. In the Guard Spider vattle we see fallen debris used as cover, and in this one something occurs with the sewer gushing grey water, although I couldn't tell if that was a boss attack or what effect it would have.

    Two issues I've noticed:

Of the three boss fights I've seen all three perform the "Jump onto the wall/fly out of reach" move regardless of whether or not being out of range makes sense for their design. I can see that becoming tiring real quick unless you are a big fan of controlling Barrett.

Tifa being a brawler is constantly up in Aps' face, I'm not sure how good the party AI will be for dodging and evading, but ypu may find yourself constantly having to take control of her during boss battles to keep her alive.
