    Summary: a lagging economy hurts Trump's chance at re-election, so his crony backers are heavily investing to convince useful idiots to get out there and make the appearance of popular support for (prematurely) re-opening the country in order to further the government de-legitimizing tenure of Trump.

      Further evidence that these are really just the dumbest people.

      Yes, There is a well accepted notion in political science that American elections track really tightly with the rate of GDP growth a few weeks prior to the election. But where they're wrong is that this does not mean this is the sole determining factor in deciding who wins. We don't actually know what the causal mechanism is. We just know there is a correlation there, but making a public show out of the necessity of sacrificing the core of your own political base (of very old people) to get that economy going is definitely not going to solve Trump's problem.
