Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
I recently purchased a Concept2 rower. I'd had one previous to getting married but I sold it when we moved into together because her house didn't have room. Now that we've moved into a bigger house I got another and boy had I missed it. My wife who hasn't really been interested in exercise really loves it because she can watch her shows while she's doing it. I've been doing it pretty much every day and that's one of the things I love about it is that it doesn't take the toll on my body that something like running does.
Weight update
This Monday, the scale graced me with a reading of 234 lbs, which marks my 50 lbs (50.6 lbs, technically) weight loss since May 2021. This is the lightest I've been since probably 2012, as my previous lowest weight in 2017 or 2018 was 238 lbs. Only four more pounds until I've hit weight goal 2 of 230 lbs. I think at that point, I will focus a month or two on the gym and yoga to strengthen and mobilize my body a bit more, but we'll see.
Diet
Still stuck between a little bit of cooking with mostly eating take-out. M-W-F are usually a wash because after the gym I'm not interesting in cooking, so I'll try to cook regularly on Tuesday, Thursday, and on the weekend.
Fitness
Once I got back to the gym, I have disregarded yoga, so I need to start implementing that again. I'll start with my non-gym days, and try to transition into a daily routine with it: post-workout on my gym days, and otherwise just post-work on non-gym days or whenever on the weekend. Either that or keep the weekends for just rest, as my body still has a long way to go before it's functional again.
However, I did do some light jogging on Monday on the treadmill for like 20 seconds, so that's progress. My knee couldn't really keep up though so I had to slow down haha
I'm finally at a point where I'm pretty happy with my weight (202 lbs, down from 244 lbs). I might lose a bit more, as I'll continue to diet and exercise, but I'm not really going to focus on my weight so much as my exercising.
My main source of exercise has been walking, and while I enjoy it, it takes a good chunk of my very limited free time. I decided to start incorporating some running into my walks, with the goal of just doing full runs in the future.
I've done a few trial runs where I'll cycle between two minutes of walking and one minute of running, for about 15 minutes and it felt pretty great. I can burn about the same amount of calories in half the time. The weather hasn't been all that favourable to running (lots of ice on the roads) the last few weeks but we're slowly starting to get warmer days. I also didn't have proper running shoes, but just ordered some.
So I'm very much looking forward to the increasingly pleasant weather and starting some new fitness goals.
Also, after almost a month of having sore wrists after doing push ups they are now 100% pain free. I've been able to do some planks again without feeling any pain the next day, and I think I'll start doing some inclined push ups soon with the goal of working my way up to regular push ups.
