Brit here. We've been dealing with the delta variant since at least April. Part of me optimistically thinks there won't be much to worry about unless an even worse strain comes out that compromises our vaccines.

Hospital admissions and deaths are still far, far lower than in the second wave, and seem to be predominantly affecting the unvaccinated. Even in the UK where nearly 90% of adults have received a coronavirus jab it's still quite high.

The jury is also out on just how effective single doses are against the Delta variant. Earlier research showed a mere 33% efficacy rate whereas later findings from Canada showed that it's more like 60 - 70%, which is still damn substantial.

My hope, and I could be completely wrong about this, is that cases will hit a brick wall once the delta strain runs short of unvaccinated people to infect.
