As usual, remember to turn on the closed captioning for this video!

    From the video description:

The previous pulley blower was fixed in place and couldn't be moved due to stakes hammered into the ground that supported the rotor for the blower. This meant that the blower took up room in an already cluttered hut. To make it portable, I tried to lash the stakes to the housing but it would not do so in such a way that the rotor would be centred. So the solution I came up with was to the piece of the ground the stakes were hammered into portable- I simply cast the stakes into an adobe block and it it dry hard. The result was a portable blower that could be shifted out of the way and stored in a corner until needed. I then did an iron smelt with it and it got a similar yield to the original set up.

p.s. Related video from last year:
Building a flywheel blower for iron ore smelting

TBH, I think the Flywheel blower looked like a better design, overall... but the pulley blower is a neat idea!

You have no idea the sense of belonging i get when two of my niches overlap! Been subscribed since the first video and I’m sat each time I get the email of new release. Thank you for posting this....

And my favorite so far was the first natural air flow (tall tower) design. I think it has the biggest prills so far.

Ditto. I've been subbed to him ever since his first video went viral on reddit many many years ago, and I've watched all of them since then. TBH, I wish he would finally take the next step by forging all the iron he has managed to refine from the riverbank clay into something useful, instead of just constantly iterating on the blower and furnace designs... but even if he never does forge something, I'm content to keep watching since I find his video super relaxing to watch.

I think I saw somewhere that he’s trying to prove indigenous New Zealanders had the capability to smelt iron. So he’s trying to figure out the best blower / smelter before he forges? I do think...

I think I saw somewhere that he’s trying to prove indigenous New Zealanders had the capability to smelt iron. So he’s trying to figure out the best blower / smelter before he forges? I do think it’ll be interesting to see if he uses his old smelts eventually. Maybe in a new smelter?
