What can I say? I recently got into paragliding myself, and I'm halfway to achieving my full pilot license here in New Zealand, which involves 40 paragliding flights covering a range of tasks, accompanied by a few theory exams.
There's by far, no cheaper, more freeing way to experience soaring above the Earth than paragliding. I can't wait until I have my full license and up skill until I'm participating in competitions.
That "gaggle" at the start of the race with all the racers looping around each other in such a tight cluster looks super fucking dangerous... if any of those pilots collide they're pretty much...

The first person into a thermal sets the direction for everyone else, so there's some level of reliance that everyone else follows known best practices, but the gliders are trimmed at essentially...

But you're right, collisions do sometimes happen. Everyone carries a reserve parachute just in case.
Oh, right... parachutes are a thing, LOL. Still, if they get too tangled up I imagine the parachute might not be a viable option. Still quite a scary prospect. :/
