Any sailing enthusiasts here ?
Hey everyone
If you're a fellow sailor, post your favorite boat, current boat and location here.
I'll start -
Fav boat : Hunter 42ss
Current boat : Broke college kid :(
Location : Great lakes
Also who was hyped for the Mackinac race last weekend ?
I've never sailed before, but I'm interested in what it's like. If someone like you (broke college kid) with ZERO sailing experience wanted to get into it, what would you recommend?
Local Sailing and Yacht Clubs are a good option, even if you're broke, since they often offer reasonably affordable or even free lessons using loaner boats. You can just google "<your city name> Sailing|Yacht club|lessons" to find some in your area.
Cool. I live near a sizable lake so I might have to give that a go sometime, cheers.
Look up US sailing or ASA (American sailing association) and try to find schools through them, they tend to be pretty consistent. Most sailing clubs in most cities tend to have a membership you can buy allowing you to take out boats for a certain number of hours. My membership let’s me use a decent boat only during weekdays for a great price.
Sailing not so much. But I like to take my paddle boat out on lakes and rivers. Fishing rod holder, sun canopy, and a cupholder are all I need.
That and my lady to help paddle, cuz that shit can get tiring.
I went fishing with a buddy of mine once. Best thing about it were the conversations and the beer lmao
I think a guy named Christopher Cross might be. I don't know, ask him
For those who don't get the joke (like I didn't):

Don't sail, but man, I do respect you folk that do. I'm more of a paddle sports person
Motorized boats? Don't care too much for those, and see them as just a waste of fossil fuels.
I’ve never been a big fan of motorized boats myself, I just hate the noise.
That too... A sail ship comes by, with hardly a sound but flapping sails. Motorized boat? You hear it a couple of miles away on a quiet morning.
