Home brewing
So, I'm currently working up 2 1 gallon apfelweing batches. For a while I was doing many 6 gallon batches, but took a break for a while, and getting back into it.
Any other homebrewers out there? Anything fermented, even kombucha :)
Now that's my kinda drink lol
How did you do a cold brew on that scale? I made a coffee stout once and I ended up making a huge mess of my kitchen when doing the cold brew portion. I used 4 2-liter tea pitchers, and enough coffee escaped that I had to filter the grounds again as I poured it. I would love to know how you did it and if you found a better way than me.
Great timing, I actually just did a whole beer kit thing this morning! First time doing it on my own and I'm pretty sure I screwed up at least one thing, but it'll be fun to see how it turns out in a few weeks!
Brewing is usually pretty forgiving, especially with kits. Most important is cleaning everything, so you don't get an infection, but even cleaning it pretty forgiving, at least in the US. Chlorinated water is generally enough of a sanitizer, on it's own, I've found. ie, I don't use sanitizers when cleaning bottles and carboys and the like. Just water.
I mean, when you think about it, people did this thousands of years ago. No sanitizers :) And the first batches were from leaving stuff outside too long :)
That makes me feel a lot better! Of course the true test will be in about six weeks to see how forgiving it really is
I actually just started my first batch of kvass! I've also brewed several batches of kombucha in the past, and have helped my old man out with some beers. I'm hoping to try my hands at mead before too long.
I just learned about kvass. Thank you!
EDITED "class" to "kvass", stupid phone autocorrect
I just got extract for a Imperial Stout in the mail yesterday and I'm planning on running out to get the yeast tomorrow. Should be a good one
