Settler colonialism is not just a historic evil but a modern-day one

Ignoring the fact that how the left is perceived and what people on the left actually say are orthogonal, I do think that the author makes a valid point (but it applies more widely than just the left): a lot of Western rhetoric denies the agency of people in third-world countries. It is quite unhelpful when dealing with present-day problems to reduce everything down to "ah, colonialism" because even though colonialism is an important factor, lots of present-day issues (which can be fixed) are due to things other than colonialism (which probably won't be fixed).
