    This speech is so eloquently written, yet accessible. Thank you, @c_hawkthorne, for sharing. I read it yesterday. One passage/image that sticks with me is that of a nation as a river. The country’s youth gave Douglass hope when he wrote. From our vantage nearly 170 years later, 245 years into an experiment in democratic nationhood, it’s hard to believe that that river will ever significantly and permanently alter its course.
