      Yeah, I had heard the rough story about Roanoke ages ago, but had never actually learned about all the specifics until now. E.g. I didn't know that the first colonists fled back to England after massacring the local tribe that had helped them initially survive there, nor that the second group of colonists were basically abandoned there instead of taken to their intended location further up the bay, nor that three entirely different groups of people disappeared there (if you count the three people left behind when the original colony was first abandoned).

      The fact that John White seemingly gave up his search for the second group of colonists (his daughter amongst them) so quickly/easily after returning 3 years later and finding the colony abandoned, instead of at least making a token effort to look for them on Croatoan island, struck me as especially weird too. And the stone tablets, map patch and recent archeological digs were interesting to learn about as well.
