i read this article earlier this year and just remembered it today after someone reminded me of it. for the unaware or half-aware this article is related to the "Slender Man" stabbing in 2014. on one hand, it's a played-straight story about how two 12-year-old girls lured their best friend into the woods and stabbed her 19 times in an effort to appease Slender Man, who they thought was real; on another, it's an interesting, interwoven tale of mental health and the internet, and a particularly awful case study of how, in the right circumstances, the internet can influence people, especially younger children
