It's interesting for me to note that the large proportion of women getting higher education is also true for Russia. I tried to receive a bachelor's degree in Linguistics twice; both times, the majority of the year were girls, and the major part of the second time's male population were military translators – about ten guys. Out of 118 people in the year, maybe 15 were guys.
I believe it's this specific degree that's so starkly feminine. That said, there are a lot of girls getting higher education in Russia right now.
