While Ann Patchett is most famous for her novels, I've always found her nonfiction more compelling and better written. This essay is from January but I didn't see it until this week. I found it so moving and beautifully expressed. It's about the give and take of close friendship, dealing with terrible circumstances, and more.

I struggled with which category to put this in. It's a memoir essay set during the pandemic but it's not about the pandemic.
