Just a sad and pathetic state of affairs. People in the modern day would rather rely on draconic traditions than face the actual realities of the world, men who want nothing more than women to breed ten children families with, and to stay in their little safe bubble talking about their holy book instead of taking care of their people.

In my opinion this is at it's root a religious issue, not a political one. People who genuinely believe they are god's chosen, and do not mind at all trampling over the foundations of modern democracy to see their theocracy come to pass. Netanyahu in his desperation to keep power has allied himself with abhorrent figures - I didn't particularly like him beforehand, but now there is nothing he can do or say to earn my vote. Absolutely disgraceful. I hope both the US and the EU actually follow through with their "concern" and hit this government where it hurts.

I doubt it. Maybe the EU will do some light slap on the wrist, but I can't imagine the US will actually do anything. Groups like AIPAC aside, the US military relationship with Israel is too important to jeopardize. And it's not the like the US doesn't have a history of propping up right-leaning governments, even dictatorships, as long as they cooperate against enemies of both, like Iran.

Which is absolutely a shame because the people of Israel deserve better. But at the same time...the people of Israel voted for this. And it seemed pretty clear that judicial reform was always in the cards for Netanyahu and his bedfellows.
