The new government (or coalition) is more right wing than the previous. I hope that Finns take issue with this conduct.
Agreed.
As a Finn I think I can comment on this. We're of two minds here, kinda.
On the other hand we really don't want these racist spanners in the government destroying whatever credibility we have internationally.
But on the other hand we want them to be there, so that their voters will get disappointed when they can't do what they promised and vote for someone else instead.
Opposition is where these kind of parties thrive and grow in popularity. They have zero responsibility to actually do anything and can just complain and fearmonger and blame everything on the parties who are currently in the majority coalition.
To break the cycle we kinda need them to be in power, even for a while, and fuck up so royally they won't get there again.
I wish I could agree with this point, because I used to agree with it. The thing is, once they're elected, they're "sticky" - they just cart out the same fear mongering around election time and get back in, again and again and again, no matter the damage they inflicted when they were in power. We in the UK used to say similar things in the 00's. The Conservatives won power in 2010, and 13 years of absolute guttertrash policies have left the country with dimished international credibility and trust, massive gaps in infrastructure and governance, but they keep winning.
Yea and in the US they don't play by "the rules" and just gerrymander openly and select party people to key positions making them harder and harder to wrestle out of power... Or maybe stack the Supreme Court with right-wing people so they can dismantle decades of progress in a few years.
Yeah, MPs like Jacob Rees Mogg, Nadine Dorries and Suella Braverman, among others, who have all somehow managed to fall up the ladder into positions of power at some point or other.
People like this have got a horrible thing for clinging on to power, like a leech.
While the arrow seems to be pointing towards Labour getting into power next year and a few of these parasites losing their seats, the Tory election media machine hasn't started in earnest yet so while I don't think they've got a chance of retaining power they can still probably minimise the damage.
