As someone of Sámi descent, generations of discrimination at the hands of those representing the center- and far-right have taught minorities to view their rhetoric as nothing but hollow pleas to retain power. They view us as lesser creatures deserving nothing from the rich government coffers they openly plunder for their own purposes.

In much of Eastern Europe, things like the red star and the hammer and sickle are particularly associated with the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. In Finland’s case, there’s the history surrounding the Winter and Continuation Wars, and the likely conquest in the event of a Soviet victory. Some view the Soviet Union as merely another Russian empire with window dressings, and Soviet policy did favor Slavs in certain areas (e.g., on ballistic missile submarine crews).
