I do love cruises, though I never expected to. Just wish they didn't have such a crazy bad carbon footprint.

I've been on a few cruises as my husband used to be a cruise travel agent, and had mixed feelings. On the one hand it's great to not have to do anything while you're there, on the other it was too many people and too much frenetic activity (for me) going on every time you left your cabin. I did enjoy the ports of call as long as we got out of the cruise ship area- usually when you leave the ship you end up in a huge tourist area set up to service the ships, but if you get past that area there are very interesting things to see. It was a fairly reasonable way for me to find areas that I want to go back to in the future.

With this article I begin to consider a cruise as a trip worth taking. I've loved just going to different towns with my wife and wandering around, eating at different restaurants and seeing the sights, doing very little. A cruise seems to be that, but more so.

A cruise is kinda like the movie trailer version of a destination trip. It’s great for places like the Caribbean where you don’t need to spend a week on an island to justify your visit there. Instead I can spend a day at a private beach, see a new city, take a hike or just hang by a pool. If there’s a place you like you can decide to come back later, if you hate it you can go to your room/the pool. Alternatively it can be a party in a new place each day.

For me, the best part of a cruise is being able to go on a group and/or family trip where you can spend your days doing vastly different activities and still get together at other times.

I've been on a cruise before, never again, none of the activities that you can realistically do on a boat I enjoy, and there is no way off the boat. Also, people everywhere, the only way to not be around them is to be in what amounts to a steel prison cell. Did I mention pretty much no internet access?
