I remember the first time I watched the movie I didn't even notice the sleight-of-hand in the shot because I was so caught up in the emotion of the moment. It wasn't until later re-watchings that I realized the scene was effectively an "impossible" one.

This explanation was really insightful, and it's a testament to how good of a job the filmmakers did that, even when you know what to watch for, it still looks nearly flawless.

I'm also probably not alone here in saying this is one of my all-time favorite movies -- not just for the subject matter and story but because I think Jodie Foster is an incredible actress and the skill with which she plays her role elevates the entire film.

Jodie Foster is a treasure. Since Taxi Driver. What a career.
