Very cool! Discussion last year was quite pessimistic about the Epic Games acquisition, but the move to form a union definitely puts a good deal of confidence back into Bandcamp as the best place to engage with the music industry online. Hopefully we get a good few more years at least from this!

A very small suspicious part of me wonders if this could be a marketing ploy to keep Bandcamp looking trendy amidst new doubts. It almost seems too ideal an outcome, but it does seem Bandcamp itself were arming themselves for a fight, so who knows. Still somewhat convinced Epic wants to hold onto a 'creators first' image.

Not a whole lot has changed since the acquisition. Bandcamp Fridays still routine, and Bandcamp radio unchanged. The mobile app has seen improvement, but those are welcome changes. I'd be happy if that's where there focus remains for now.

Each day I'm grateful that their website hasn't yet become a slow, javascript heavy ajax mess. The DIY aesthetic of the album pages are perfect, and I hope they never change.

“What will we do when strong unions become a marketing tool?” “Mission fucking accomplished!” Yes, I know there’s a whole lot more to it than that, but a guy can dream.
