Sinead O'Connor's performance on SNL was a punctuation in the culture wars of the 1990's. What the mainstream prounounced as a career ending stunt would probably be better named a career defining moment by O'Connor herself. The Catholic Church's problem with child sex abuse was still not widely known at this time and Sinead's performance would sadly be largely forgotten when the truth came to light a decade later. By her own words, the star found stardom and universal acclaim a sickness, a symptom of a rotten system, and she would go on to be thankful for this moment - that she could be the artist that she always meant to be, true to herself and true to her politics
